Safe distance for shooting at angled swinging steel targets?
What is a safe distance with vii.62x39 to shoot at 3/8" AR500 steel discs. The discs are suspended past chains and the ammo are the typical russian bimetal bullets through an AK.
What is a condom distance for .308 7.62x51 for bimetal bullets and the same target?

Are you thinking tearing up your target or splatter from the round?

I will remember that if the monsterous creature is within clubbing range, it is a tight state of affairs, and start clubbing. This is truthful even if my firearm notwithstanding works. No reason not to club and shoot at the aforementioned time.

Good steel that swings or is angles about 20 deg tin can be shot at 50 yards with vii.62x39 equally long as information technology is not AP or steel core. 308 the minimum distance is 100 yards. larger calibers would be 200 yards. Do not shoot steel at fifty yards with a 223 or 556. They are too fast and will damage the target. The x39 is slower at 50 than a 556 is at 100.
- The condom issue is for people on the firing line beingness struck by materials caused by the bullet striking the plate. The splatter might likewise include pieces of steel jacket.

I've safely fired bi-metal and copper jacketed .223 and steel core M43 ball at fixed and swinging AR 500 targets as close as 25 yards.
Both the fixed and swinging targets are set to have virtually a x degree angle to deflect the splatter downwards. In that location is no significant difference between the .223 and M43 with respect to the tiny marks left in the face of the plate.

As steel gets marked up the splatter has more than random variation and is less anticipated. I prefer non to mark up my steel. It'south ameliorate for the target which makes information technology improve for me.
You lot want to shoot some reactive targets closer? Try these: http://www.youtube.com/watch?5=pWOSxO28OCY They are lighter than steel and no splash. They don't give them abroad though. I'm currently playing with the idea of some targets fabricated out of conveyor chugalug fabric. I oasis't even shot them even so, only I was looking for something calorie-free to send, no splash and be reactive. Anyone else take whatsoever ideas on the cheap, delight share.

- I was told i could employ a sawsall to cut tires and they are not so different from conveyer belt materials. Tires even have steel belts to brand them tougher.

I don't know the distance or if it was a jacketed bullet. I'll enquire him next time I run across him. He sold the plate at garage auction. {{{=-)Enjoying Mail service Mid-Life Crisis.
